Experience the enchantment of the Copper Canyon by passenger train!

The Copper Canyon of Mexico provides an experience so pure and majestic that visitors feel as if they’ve entered into a whole new world. The small towns, off the beaten path, provide just enough amenities to make this the trip of a lifetime. One of the unique features of this adventure is that a train ride is the only way to really experience the Copper Canyon’s wonders first hand.

The Copper Canyon is home to the shy Tarahumara Indians, the most primitive tribe in North America with over 50,000 semi-nomadic natives still living and preserving their culture in the traditional style of their ancestors.

We greet you at the airport in Chihuahua, Mexico. You will travel first-class aboard the train and experience the breathtaking essence of the Copper Canyon as it winds its way through the mountains and canyons from Chihuahua to Bahuichivo. Transfer by bus to Cerocahui where we enjoy a night at the first-class Misíon hotel and visit Urique Canyon. Our guide returns us to Bahuichivo to board our train for the next leg of our journey.

Enjoy a lovely evening in Divisadero at Posada Mirador, with amazing views of the Canyon right from your own room. A walking tour of the canyon rim takes you to the edge of one of the most beautiful and unheralded vistas in North America. Ride the tram from the canyon rim, and tour the area. For the more adventurous, there is an option to experience the world’s longest zip-line course.

Explore the countryside as we ascend to the logging town of Creel. Tour the local area, visiting a Tarahumara Museum, a Tarahumara family living in a cave, a mission, an Indian boarding school and several other areas of interest.

Our ultimate destination is the historic and tranquil village of Batopilas. This beautiful little town at the very bottom of the canyon brings new meaning to the term remote. The road we take to Batopilas is said to be “The most spectacular drive in North America.”

Stay in a charming hotel in Batopilas, where each room has its unique antique décor. Step back in time as we tour the town and the 400 year old “Lost Cathedral of Satevo”, visit a local Tarahumara family, and explore the ruins of a silver baron’s hacienda.

Adventure Caravans gives you an extraordinary adventure in the Copper Canyon. As you return to Chihuahua to depart this enchanted land, the beauty and the people will fill you with memories that will last a lifetime. Come and experience it!

  • “There wasn’t a thing or subject they [the Wagonmasters] wouldn’t bend over backwards to find out, get, or inform us about, and all with a cheerful and professional manner, no matter how tired.” “The thing we liked best on this tour was the variety and frequency of extra curricular activities, such as cultural tours, eating out, socials, games.” “We were led through and shown some of the most spectacular scenery we have ever seen.”
    Tom & Charlu Choate
  • “We liked it all, it was perfect.”
    Jim & Judy Bristow
  • I must say it was way beyond my wildest dreams and thoughts of South Africa. First of all, I have to say that the people were exceptional. They were beautiful not only in looks, their beauty was in everything they did for us. They were so happy to talk with us and question us about America. They all would love to come over here to visit but said they knew they would never be able to afford the trip. I was overwhelmed with the young children and their attitude toward us. They laughed, smiled and waved to us all along the highways on their way to school. I have to admit, I was so proud of how they were dressed and their pride. Our American children have so much and appreciate it so little.
    Carole & Len Adams

  • “Excellent trip and leaders!”
